Greyhound costs $29 for 7 day advanced purchase and the bus leaves Asheville at 9:15 AM with arrival in Raleigh @ 2:00 PM.

Have you tried looking at Amtrak?

U.S. Airways has direct flights. See webpage below. I just picked a couple of random dates to use and up popped their direct flights. you can enter your dates and give it a try.
